صرح الرئيس النمساوي "هاينز فيشر" في مقابلة مع مجلة "زمان" التركية بأن النظام الملكي النمساوي قد اعترف بالإسلام في عام 1912، وذلك بعد وقت قصير من انخراط "البوسنة والهرسك" في الإمبراطورية النمساوية المجرية، وأضاف بأن "النمسا" فخورة باعترافها بمواطنيها المسلمين، وأن الجالية الإسلامية ساهمت بشكل كبير في تاريخ "النمسا".
يُذكَر أن "النمسا" تحتفل هذا العام 2012 بمرور 100 عام علي اعترافها بالإسلام.

The Austrian President Heinz Fischer announced in an interview for "Zaman" Magazine that after the "Bosnia and Herzegovina" fusion in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Royal Austrian family acknowledged Islam in 1912. He also said that Austria is proud to acknowledge its Austrian Muslim Citizens, as the Muslim community contributed significantly to Austria's History.
In 2012, Austria celebrates a century since its Islam acknowledgement.
